Many people ask us of the significance of 'Thea's House'.
The story behind the name of our bed and breakfast, is that 'Thea' means aunt in Greek. Our home was originally owned by Greg's great uncle and aunt who immigrated from Greece.
Uncle Frank and Aunt Georgia (Thea) were like second parents to Greg's own father and mother, Van and Iris Christou. As a child, Greg and his brothers would often come over to Thea's house to play with their cousins.
Frank and Georgia had been known throughout the area for their warmth, kindness, and their delicious cooking and baking.
With the Christou family being so close-knit, Aunt Georgia's last wish was to have her home kept in the family.

What better way to do that, and pass on her generous hospitality, than to open her home up as a bed and breakfast in her honor.
The original house was a one level bungalow, which was built in 1952. To transform Thea's home into the building that you see today, we removed the roof to add on the second floor, and also incorporated the front entrance and guest lounge.
The look of the house from the outside was kept very close to the original design, it is now just on a larger scale.
Thea's House opened for business in April of 1998, and with no other bed and breakfast like this in Banff, we are extremely proud of what we offer in memory of Aunt Georgia.
We truly hope that you come visit us, and that you enjoy your stay in our home…Thea's home.
